Ayden’s #1

January 28, 2010 · Leave a Comment

It has been a crazy few weeks here in our house.  From traveling to Greenbay to being gone for two for school, life has been a bit chaotic for all of us.  But the best part during this chaotic time was Ayden celebrating his 1st birthday.  It was one year ago on the 14th that Ayden graced our family on a very very cold day.  And since then he has kept us running, watching, and enjoying every minute.

He got his first birthday celebration in on the 2nd of January in Greenbay with all his cousins, Aunt’s, Uncle’s, and Grandma and Grandpa Tingley.  We are pretty sure he had a blast eating his first full piece of cake and one whole scoop of ice cream.  Plus we also think his cousins had more fun celebrating his 1st birthday with him.

On the 10th I took off over to the Cities and spent two weeks at school for my intensives.  I won’t tell you what you missed while I was there but I will tell you what I missed while I was there.  On the 12th, Ayden took his first step(s) – 5 to be exact.  So I missed that.  And then I missed his actual birthday on the 14th.

But I did make it back for his big birthday celebration on the 16th with all his family, relatives and friends.  He had  a “pj monkey” party will a full spread of food, monkey toes, cartoons, and pajamas.  It was a great time and Ayden has been blessed with such a great circle of family and friends.

In the meantime – mom has been sneaking into the gym and getting some workouts in.  I think she has a plan for some 1/2 marathons this spring and summer.  She hasn’t said so herself but I think there is a conspiracy brewing.  There are exactly 30 days until the Birkie.  I’ve been skiing quite a bit but not racing (which I’m very fine with).  We will see how the season goes.  This will be the first Birkie where I specifically had to switch my training from quantity of skis to quality of skis.  Big difference but at the same time I’ve learned a thing or two about myself.

Boards and Cord from this end…

Struggling to get the body back into Birkie form.  It sucks when you know how it feels but you end up resorting to just looking fast.  Its funny what you stumble across that ignite that something….

Just can’t seem to shake my need for the wheels and warp on over to the boards.  50 degree temps will do that to you.  I did get my registration in for THIS, but I’ve been thinking more about THIS.

From vintage to a fixie commuter.  This was to be my offseason project.  But for some reason when I work on a bike my imagination wants to be fulfilled with immediate gratification.  So it only took me a month and a half.

The frame, seatpost, and stem come from my dad’s 1962 Schwinn Varsity bicycle that he bought the summer after he graduated from high school.  He bought the bike so that he had transportation to work.  I stripped it down to the frame, sandblasted it, and had it powder-coated.  I had to use a bottom bracket converter kit so that I could use a 107 mm bb.  All the parts come from EIGTHINCH.  Thanks guys for the hook-up.

I’ve put on about 20 miles just from commuting to work and back the last two days.  the ride is a blast but I must say I now have the utmost respect for single speeders and even more respect for fixed gear rigs.  My knee caps have almost gone thru my brain a time or two.

Bike Bike Biun Biun Brun Brun Run Run Run Run.  Metamorphosis. This season is gradual.  Unlike mother nature.  Hate running.  Roller ski is better.  Snow is great.
