getting close

Things are coming together quite nicely for the first race of the season that is in just two and a half weeks.  I firmed up some sponsorship this year so I can get a leg up on the competition.  So at this time I would like to thank THIS and THEM for their support for this up coming season.  Without them I would not have been able to get hooked up with my new race wheels.

But in all seriousness – I like these new Bontrager 29er RXL wheelset.  They are lighter, faster, and sweeter.  And they are true to who I am – meaning – they make me look fast and that is all that matters.

The Cable Off Road Classic is right around the corner and like Tom Meyer said – “better eat yer wheaties.”   Now we have ourselves a game!

identity theft

For thirteen years the majority of my identity has been encased in the car that I drove.  And what attributed to my identity being in my car were the plates.  Now that I think about it, I am intrigued as to why someone would get personalized plates -maybe it is to draw attention to themselves (which, if it is, I’m guilty as all get out) or member the owner wants to be clever.  Or better yet, maybe its a clever way to draw attention.  Either way – I gave up my last bit of cleverness last week and went the route of saving money.  Come to find out you really only save $18.  So much for my clever college ego….but I think that is a good thing.

Butterflies and Apple Juice

So Ayden experienced his first Butterfly cycle and really didn’t know what to think about the whole thing.  Like most of us, his first run in with this things gave him the creeps.  All he could say was “wow.”

In the video Nikole asks, “are you sure it’s going to be ok?”  I replied, “yea, it’s going to be fine.”  Well, we are pretty sure it didn’t make it through the day and was eaten by a robin…we won’t tell Ayden that.

Nikole and I are also those parents who try to keep the sugar intake of our first child to a minimum.  So we had to get this on video because it WAS the first time that WE gave him juice (who knows what he gets from the grandmas and grandpas when we are not around).  And yes…Nikole did take the cup away from him just to exemplify how much he loved it.  She is sick that way…

Rigid what?

Rigidness

The last time I rode a rigid mountain bike (one with no suspension at all) was, as you can see for you self, the summer of my 8th grade year.  Diamond Back Sorento was my very first mountain bike (pictured above).  In fact, it was my first NEW bike.  She was a rigid, she made me feel fast and she was my first love.

This off season I decided to go rigid on my GF Superfly.  Lowes Creek finally opened up last week and I could not wait to get out on my ride and test out the new upgrades.  I was told not to sell my Fox fork in case I found the rigid to be too hard on my shoulders and arms.  Well, two hours on Thursday, hour and a half on Friday….I have decided to sell my Fox fork.  My vote is rigid.  Anyone else?

Now I just have to get rid of the gears, right? (For all you single speeding freaks?)

07.04.2010

Ayden had a great “real” first Easter (last year he was only three months old and didn’t quite know what was going on).  And as you can see for your self…he probably will NOT want to know what was going on when he watches this video nineteen years from now.

It is easy when they can’t put up a fight…yet.  He is, however, learning that with enough noise and fussing one can get what they want (I blame his mother for that).  Life is moving along at balzin speed and we are trying our hardest to hold on.  We are making sure that we get our share of family time, squeeze in our training time and get outdoors as the weather is absolutely beautiful.

Exactly five weeks until the first MTB race…
